Pancreatic Diseases & Treatment
Disorders of the pancreas can be divided into those caused
by tumors (benign or malignant) and those caused by inflammation.
The most common malignant pancreatic tumor is adenocarcinoma.
Other types of tumors are cystic tumors, such as serous cystadenomas,
mucinous cystadenomas, intraductal pancreatic mucinous cystic
neoplasms (IPMN), or cystadenocarcinomas. Uncommonly seen
are neuroendocrine (islet cell tumors), lymphoma, or metastatic
tumors. It is extremely important to determine which type
of tumor is present as this will dictate further therapy.
Your condition will be carefully reviewed by our doctor and
treatment will be recommended tailored to your particular
case. The majority of surgical procedures performed
on the pancreas involve removal of the portion that is involved
in the disease process. However, the management of some pancreatic
diseases may not necessarily involve surgery.
